The Danish philosopher, Soren Kierkegaard, wrote a famous story about ducks. It described a town in which only ducks live. Every Sunday the ducks waddle out of their houses down the street to their church. They waddle into the sanctuary and squat in their pews. The duck choir  waddle in and sing. Then the duck minister comes forward and says to them: “Ducks! God has given you wings. With wings you can fly. With wings you can mount up and soar like eagles. No walls can confine you. No fences can hold you. You have wings. You can fly.” And all the ducks shout “Amen!” And then they all waddle home.

Kierkegaard’s story was a critique of what he saw in the church of his day. Religious people doing religious activities but being unchanged by them. He saw a disconnect between worship and living – between how people related to God and to others. That is not what the Bible calls for. In the Great Commandment (Matthew 22:37-39) Jesus calls us to love God and love our neighbours.

At Rowville Baptist we seek to put our worship into practice. Visit pages on this site to see what we are doing to worship God/love people. You are welcome to join us in this.
