The Journey So Far...

RBC has had a long history of discerning God’s will for the development of the property.   In previous decades, there were a number of conversations and proposals, however, there was no significant movement until 2001. The members of RBC expressed unanimous support for exploring the development of some form of community facility.

In 2003, after spending a year consulting the local and church community, a concept plan was developed and the green light was given to approach architects. In 2003, a design by Atelier Wagner was approved.   This included an extended worship centre, a prayer chapel, additional spaces for social and educational activities for all ages, improved office, catering, toilet and car parking facilities with better access for the elderly and disabled, a youth drop-in centre, and a centre dedicated to community counselling, support groups and welfare that will enable our church to care for people in need.  In May 2004, the community pledged over $500,000 towards this project.

2006 saw the approval of the planning permits, & Le John Street was sealed and prepared for the build. In September 2008, the first ‘Sod was Turned’ and the new carpark was built incorporating all the necessary services for the future building.  Soon after that, the church approved the construction of one section of the overall plan, the ‘Wellington Care Centre’ and ‘Office’ wing.    This was completed and commissioned on 28 Feb 2010.

The church agreed to sub-divide and sell off the spare portions of land to help fund the remainder of the project, and in 2012 permits were granted for a ‘five-lot’ subdivision.   In 2015, another portion of remaining land was sold to the neighbouring “Wellness on Wellington’ Medical Clinic, and this year would also see a brief conversation turn into an offer from a developer to purchase the original ‘five-lot’ subdivision as one portion.  A new planning permit was received in 2016, and the land subsequently sold.    In 2016, the members also agreed to refurbish some of the existing spaces, including the toilet, foyer and auditorium, in the journey towards the greater project.

In 2023, the journey continues, with a newly revised plan with Studio B architects, and a further forged partnership with the Eastern Chinese Baptist Church (ECBC). This is an exciting and unique season as we move closer to seeing this God-given dream become a reality later this year.    Together, this will enable us to pursue our passion to be a community growing in Jesus and showing Jesus to the world.

Our passion is to be a community growing in Jesus and showing Jesus to the world.
